Production of Organic Lemon Oil
The characteristic yellow organic lemon oil is obtained by cold pressing the lemon peels. Approximately 3,000 lemons are required to produce 1 liter of organic lemon oil. Immediately after extraction, the wonderfully fresh and typical lemon scent develops.
During cold pressing, the fruit peels are mechanically pressed — a very gentle method also used in olive oil production. This process creates a mixture of essential oils and waxes from the peel. To separate them, the resulting essence is washed with water and then spun in a centrifuge to divide its components. What remains is the pure essential oil.
Origin of Organic Lemon Oil
The lemon originally comes from China, where it was cultivated as early as the 10th century BC. It later spread to Persia and was brought to Greece by Alexander the Great. Lemon trees belong to the citrus (Rutaceae) family and are now found throughout the Mediterranean region, as well as in Asia and the Americas.
