Beeswax has special properties which have benefited humans since ancient times:

  • It’s naturally free of nasty chemicals and toxins
  • It’s entirely natural and edible
  • It has built in anti-bacterial properties
  • It is anti-inflammatory – helps to soothe irritated skin
  • It contains vitamin A – which helps wounds heal, protects against the sun and reduces wrinkles
  • It’s a great emulsifier, and mixes readily with oils
  • It’s water-repellent
  • It has a high melting point of 62 to 64 °C (144 to 147 °F)

Beeswax is a versatile natural product that has various uses due to its unique properties. Here are some common uses of beeswax:

  •  Candle Making: Beeswax candles are popular for their clean and natural burn. They produce a subtle, sweet scent and don't release harmful chemicals into the air.

  •  Cosmetics and Skincare: Beeswax is a common ingredient in lip balms, lotions, creams, and other skincare products. It helps create a protective barrier on the skin, locking in moisture.

  •  Wood and Leather Care: Beeswax can be used to polish and protect wood surfaces, such as furniture and cutting boards, as well as to condition leather goods like shoes, belts, and bags.

  •  Sealing and Waterproofing: Beeswax can be applied to fabric or leather to create a water-resistant or waterproof barrier. This makes it useful for outdoor gear like jackets and boots.

  •  Food Preservation: Beeswax wraps can be used as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic wrap for preserving food. They can cover bowls or wrap around fruits, vegetables, and cheese.

  •  Art and Craft Projects: Beeswax is often used in art and craft projects, particularly in encaustic painting, where it is melted and mixed with pigments to create vibrant paintings.

  •  Haircare Products: Beeswax is found in some hair styling products, such as pomades and waxes, to provide hold and control without the stiffness of synthetic alternatives.

  •  Lubricant: Beeswax can be used as a natural and non-toxic lubricant for items like zippers, drawer slides, and other mechanisms.

  •  DIY Furniture Polish: Mix beeswax with olive oil or coconut oil to create a natural furniture polish that can be used to nourish and shine wooden surfaces.

  •  Medical and DIY Remedies: Some traditional and alternative medicine practices use beeswax in salves, balms, or ointments for its potential anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties.

Depending on your end product requirement, you could be using either wholly white beeswax or a mixture of white and yellow which forms a better pastel for your end product.

White beeswax is more refined to remove the pollen color. Less scent and white.
Yellow beeswax is left in it's natural state. More scent and color.
